Central Airlines to grow 777F fleet

China-based Central Airlines is expanding its widebody operations and will soon add a second 777F to its fleet. Central expects the 2011-vintage unit 37716 to join its active fleet this month, the carrier told Cargo Facts . The freighter ended service with China Cargo Airlines at the end of April and has been in Shanghai (PVG) since then. (Photo/Groupe ADP)[/caption] Like Central’s first 777F (37715, also ex-China Cargo), which emerged almost a year ago in a hybrid livery featuring the airline’s colors along with the branding of Chinese forwarder YunExpress, unit 37716 will be operated on behalf of YunExpress on intercontinental routes. The addition of a second 777F is a significant step for Central, which operates ten freighters after taking delivery of its fourth 737-800BCF in the first half of 2023. China Cargo Airlines, which told Cargo Facts in March that it was expecting three new 777F deliveries in 2023 to replace two off-lease returns, took delivery of units 67798 and 67799 in March and April, respectively, while another of its older 777Fs (37717) was removed from service in April and ferried to Xiamen (XMN) in May. China Cargo’s next new 777F (67800) has been conducting test flights at the Boeing facility in Everett, Wash. (PAE). The first 777F to leave China Cargo’s fleet was unit 37714, which joined DHL’s British fleet last year. Central Airlines’ second 777F puts the airline on par with China Postal Airlines, which added its first two large widebodies in March and June, respectively. Two other Chinese carriers operate 777Fs: China Southern took on two this year for a total of seventeen and is looking to add more , while Air China has nine after taking the first of five new units this year.
