As we have reported, EVA has decided to modernize its freighter fleet with 777Fs. But on the other side of the world, Lufthansa Cargo is hesitating.
When the Germany-based carrier ordered five 777Fs from Boeing in May 2011, part of the deal was options on five more. Initially, Lufthansa had set March 2014, just after delivery of the third of the firm-ordered units – as the date by which it would decide whether to exercise the first option. But as that date approached, the carrier postponed the decision until April 2015.
April 2015 is now upon us, but Lufthansa has once again postponed the decision, this time until September. Give the carrier’s struggles with striking pilots, and declining cargo traffic, this is hardly surprising.
