Mexico-based Mas has removed from its fleet its only production 767-300F and returned it off lease to LATAM Cargo.
Mas confirmed to Cargo Facts that it returned the 2006-vintage unit 34627 to LATAM last week [FAT 007949]. The aircraft arrived in Miami (MIA) from Mexico City (MEX) Sept. 3 under a LATAM call sign to be prepped for entry into service with LATAM.
LATAM confirmed to Cargo Facts that it owns unit 34627 and had negotiated its return earlier in the year. The aircraft will ultimately be operated by LATAM Cargo Chile.
LATAM told Cargo Facts in May that it expected to add a used 767 freighter in September but could not confirm the identity of the aircraft at the time.
Unit 34627 was originally delivered to Mas when it was part of the LATAM Group. The Mexican carrier was spun out of the group and became independent in 2018.
LATAM Cargo will now have sixteen 767Fs in its operational fleet averaging seventeen years of age: nine production -300Fs and seven -300BCFs. The carrier has now taken redelivery of four of ten 767-300BCF conversions it is undertaking with Boeing — including its youngest 767 freighter ever — and expects the remaining six in 2023.
The return of unit 34627 coincides with Mas’ own 767F expansion with conversions. The carrier, which in August added its first 767F of the year with the delivery of the 1991-vintage unit 25121 (ex-Air Canada) on lease from Cargo Aircraft Management (CAM), told Cargo Facts that it expects to add another 767-300 freighter in early 2023.
On the whole, Mas is targeting the addition of as many as eighteen medium-widebody freighters from 2020 through 2024, with these freighters to be split between A330Fs and 767Fs. The carrier now has two 767-300BDSFs, one 767-200BDSF and two A330-200P2Fs.
