At the Caspian Air Cargo Summit in Baku yesterday, Jahangir Asgarov, President of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), said that, in addition to an order for four 787 aircraft for his airline, state-owned Silk Way Airlines would order two more 747-8 freighters.
Asgarov has been widely quoted in the Azeri media as saying “preparatory work for the purchase of these aircraft is currently underway,” and that the orders would be completed by the end of this year.
Silk Way’s all-cargo subsidiary, Silk Way West Airlines, currently operates five 747-8Fs and one 747-400F, and its Italy-based joint venture, SW Italia, operates two 747-400Fs.
