People: Air cargo welcomes new executives

Big players in the air cargo industry have made several key appointments in the past several weeks. Below is a selection of those announcements. Srinivasan to manage Indian subcontinent for Etihad Cargo [caption id="attachment_57138478" align="alignright" width="205"] Giridharan Srinivasan[/caption] Etihad Cargo , the cargo and logistics arm of Etihad Airways , appointed Giridharan Srinivasan as area general manager for the Indian subcontinent in mid-September. Srinivasan has 17 years of logistics experience, five of which were in the aviation sector, according to a release from Etihad Cargo. Based in Bangalore, India, Srinivasan will report to Latha Narayan , Etihad Cargo’s director of east cargo commercial, which includes the Asia-Pacific region, Australasia and the Indian subcontinent. Srinivasan will be responsible for developing relationships with customers based in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and the surrounding region. Srinivasan’s “appointment further reinforces the carrier’s commitment to the Indian subcontinent, strengthens Etihad Cargo’s commercial team in the region and positions the airline for further growth in this key market,” Narayan said in a release. “I am confident Giridharan’s knowledge, expertise and passion for delivering world-class solutions will contribute to Etihad Cargo’s ambitious long-term growth plans for the Indian subcontinent.” Airblox welcomes Shah to board of directors [caption id="attachment_57138490" align="alignright" width="213"] Neel Jones Shah[/caption] Online cargo market hub Airblox appointed Neel Jones Shah to its board of directors in mid-September. Shah is senior vice president and global head of airfreight at supply chain logistics platform provider Flexport . Shah also serves as a senior adviser at Boston Consulting Group and is a longtime member of the board of trustees at TIACA . He serves on the boards of directors at Amerijet International and Global K9 Protection Group . “We are truly honored to welcome Neel to the Airblox board of directors,” Airblox founder Edip Pektas said in a release. “His unparalleled expertise and deep industry knowledge are widely recognized. His visionary leadership aligns perfectly with Airblox’s mission to revolutionize the air cargo industry through innovation and digital transformation.” Pedreira, Oliva take new roles at Avianca [caption id="attachment_57138477" align="alignright" width="199"] Gabriel Oliva[/caption] [caption id="attachment_57138476" align="alignright" width="135"] Frederico Pedreira[/caption] Colombian carrier Avianca Cargo named Frederico Pedreira , who has served as chief operating officer since 2021, as the company’s first deputy chief executive last month. He is now in charge of operations, human talent, technology, corporate communications, customer promise and institutional relations, according to a company release. In turn, Gabriel Oliva , has taken over as COO while remaining cargo CEO. In his new role, Oliva will lead the areas of maintenance, safety, network and ground operations, service delivery, airports, and cabin crew and pilots, the release said. Oliva joined Avianca Cargo in 2021. “Without a doubt, [Pedreira and Oliva] have been a fundamental part of the team that has helped us to become a sustainable organization that, with operational efficiency as a priority, has managed to connect more, transport billions of passengers and reinvent cargo operations,” Avianca Chief Executive Adrian Neuhauser said in the release. Henschen assumes newly created role at Rohlig Logistics [caption id="attachment_57138485" align="alignright" width="217"] Marisol Henschen[/caption] Bremen, Germany-based Rohlig Logistics announced in mid-September that it appointed Marisol Henschen as global head of industry verticals — a new role — effective Sept. 1. “Her in-depth knowledge in business development, strategy, finance, product and general management will be a vital asset for us to kick-start our focus on various industry verticals,” Andreas Polychronakos , global sales and airfreight director, said in a release from the company. “With her strategic yet hands-on approach, she is an ideal fit and will help us drive success and grow our customer base.” Henschen started her career with Lufthansa and has held management positions at DB Schenker and IATA . Before joining Rohlig Logistics, she served as general manager for Latin America at Forward Air Corp . Savio to head India expansion for DoKaSch [caption id="attachment_57138480" align="alignright" width="254"] James Savio[/caption] James Savio has taken on the new role of business development manager India at Kelsterbach, Germany-based DoKaSch Temperature Solutions . Savio has many years of experience in the Indian market and was most recently regional manager south for InterGlobe Air Transport , the general sales agency for Etihad Cargo . He also worked Allied Aviation Private, where he was responsible for Bangalore as regional manager. “India is an important market for the production of pharmaceuticals, biosimilars and biotech,” DoKaSch Managing Director Andreas Seitz said in a company release. “With James Savio as business development manager India, DoKaSch TS is further expanding its engagement in this region.” Avrard to steer strategy at Geodis [caption id="attachment_57138494" align="alignright" width="260"] Xavier Avrard (Photo/Xavier Popy)[/caption] Transport and logistics company Geodis named Xavier Avrard as chief strategy officer in September and, in this role, he will also join the group’s management board. Avrard joined Geodis in 2014 as group controller, according to a company release. After contributing to the acquisition of Ozburn-Hessey Logistics , commonly known as OHL, in 2015, he was appointed managing director for projects logistics and later was named senior vice president of the Odyssey program, focusing on launching and managing the group’s digital transformation program. This year, he took over strategic development of the Europe region, particularly the integration of trans-o-flex , a company recently acquired by Geodis. Since July 1, he has led the new Group Strategy Department, which is responsible for corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, post-merger integration and monitoring of strategic investments and developments. Font is new EVP of Air Menzies International, Paine to be global head of cargo [caption id="attachment_57138472" align="alignright" width="193"] Carlos Font[/caption] Carlos Font will join airport handler Menzies Aviation as executive vice president of airfreight wholesaler Air Menzies International on Dec. 1. He will replace Jonathan Clark , who on Jan. 8 will become chief executive of Network Aviation Group . Font, with more than 20 years’ experience in digital innovation and freight forwarding, will be responsible for driving Menzies’ growth, according to a company release. Since 2019, Font has been CEO of digital freight forwarder Shipa Freight and iContainers and, prior to that, held roles with DSV . [caption id="attachment_57138470" align="alignright" width="219"] Beau Paine[/caption] “I look forward to working with [Font] to develop AMI’s innovation and digital capabilities while also progressing our growth ambitions for this very important division within Menzies,” Menzies Aviation Chief Executive Philipp Joeinig said in the release. Menzies Aviation also appointed Beau Paine as global head of cargo in September, and he will retain his current role of senior vice president cargo for Oceania and southeast Asia (OSEA). Paine joined Menzies in 2005 and has helped lead the Australian cargo team since 2018 and the wider OSEA team since 2021. In his new role, Paine is tasked with working closely with the company’s regional cargo teams, helping to develop the business as part of its cargo expansion strategy. This includes the global rollout of its next-generation warehouse management system, Menzies Aviation Cargo Handling, delivered in partnership with Wipro , according to a release from the company. [caption id="attachment_57138483" align="alignright" width="209"] Karl Aldwinckle[/caption] [caption id="attachment_57138484" align="alignright" width="196"] Kayla Moa[/caption] Supporting OSEA operations, Kayla Moa has been appointed vice president cargo operations, Australia. She joined Menzies in 2005 and will oversee the company’s local cargo operations, with a focus on delivering safe and secure services, according to the release. Karl Aldwinckle has also been named the new vice president cargo, Europe. Based at London Heathrow Airport (LHR), he will be responsible for increasing Menzies’ cargo footprint in Europe, along with supporting the rollout of new technologies, according to the release. “With signs that cargo demand is strengthening, we’ve created a solid platform for growth, and I look forward to working with Beau, Karl and Kayla as we undertake this new chapter in our cargo journey,” Joeinig said.
