Medical technology company Medtronic has broken ground on a 33,000-square-meter distribution facility in Heerlen, in the Netherlands, and has partnered with CEVA Logistics, which will manage and operate the facility.
The distribution center will put Medtronic within 24-hour range of 15,000 hospitals and clinics in Europe once it commences operations mid-2017. The facility will add 140 jobs to the existing 1,000 Medtronic positions in Heerlen and, once completed, will distribute Medtronic’s medical devices, such as implants, surgical instruments and patient monitoring systems.
Increased capacity out of Heerlen will “ensure the timely delivery of our medical technology products to hospitals and patients,” said Sikko Zoer, vice president, customer care and supply chain, at Medtronic EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa).  “The unique geographical location of this new facility is aimed at supporting anticipated growth across the European market.”
