LATAM Cargo considers next freighter types

LATAM Cargo is evaluating multiple options as it moves into the next phase of its freighter fleet strategy, including sourcing widebody and narrowbody passenger feedstock from its combination carrier parent, LATAM Airlines Group. The carrier may decide to add more 767-300BCF conversions and source young 767-300ER feedstock from its passenger fleet as it did for a 2021 order for ten conversions, LATAM Cargo Chief Executive Andres Bianchi said during a panel discussion at Cargo Facts LATAM 2026 in Mexico City last week. (Photo/Cargo Facts)[/caption] “We have a significant source of feedstock in the 767s that we already operate, so we’re confident that the 767 will be our workhorse for the near future,” Bianchi said. Although the Chile-based carrier remains committed to the nineteen 767-300 freighters it operates, it is considering other freighter types. “The company is in a healthy financial position where we can look at other opportunities,” Bianchi said. “Naturally, when we look at our passenger operations — where you have infrastructure in place, for example — you might bring A320 family aircraft into play. We have nearly two hundred of them on the passenger side.” Other options LATAM could also eventually bring the group’s passenger 777-300ERs into play, Bianchi said, adding, “but, at this point, we feel super confident with the 767s in our fleet providing the type of service, the network coverage and the economics that we require to be competitive.” LATAM is also closely monitoring the A330 freighter type, evaluating their performance and capabilities for now, Gudny Genskowsky, senior vice president of alliances and network at LATAM Cargo, said during a widebody discussion at the event. However, the cost to operate empty legs with an A330 would be higher than with LATAM’s 767-300Fs, she said. LATAM took redelivery of its final 767-300BCF conversion from Boeing in August 2025. That 2012-vintage unit (40799) has not yet entered service. To reduce the age of its 767 freighter fleet, LATAM retired two older production 767 freighters in 2024 and 2025. The airline sold a 1999-vintage 767-300F (29881) to CAM in 2025 and a 2000-vintage unit (30780) to Jetran in 2024 . Follow Cargo Facts’ coverage of Cargo Facts LATAM 2026 .
