NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A year and a half after Air Transport Services Group became a privately held company, President and Chief Executive Greg Mays said he is working to make ATSG a more recognizable brand.
The key to doing that, he said, is transforming and modernizing the company’s fleet.

“Our stated vision is to become the world’s most trusted provider of aviation solutions,” Mays said during a fireside chat today at Cargo Facts Symposium.
The company was sold to New York-based private equity firm Stonepeak for $3.1 billion in April 2025. Mays was named president five months later and took on the company’s top role this year.
He said ATSG, the world’s largest owner and operator of a converted Boeing 767 fleet, comprising 125 airframes (113 Boeing 767-300 freighters and 12 Boeing 767-200 freighters), is reassessing its needs and examining where to deploy its capital in the coming years.
ATSG’s leasing subsidiary, CAM, continues to expand its A330 freighter footprint.
“The fleet really represents everything,” Mays said of the aging fleet. “I love Boeing, they built a great airplane in the 767, but it’s not getting better with time.
“I think putting the fleet first and redeploying the fleet is important, and we will put capital into that.”
Mays said his team is assessing multiple aircraft types and is not averse to trying something new.
“You have to have a long-term plan and a strategy to fund it,” he said. “Your fleet strategy is a big ship and a little rudder, and it takes a long time to turn.
“We have a lot of room to grow.”
Mays said he is open to adding large widebody aircraft such as the A350F or 777 freighters in the next five years.
“Our focus today is really understanding where we are with our current 767 fleet and being really good at finding A330s,” he said. “As we build out our five-year plan and beyond, we can’t discount the fact that a 777 could be in there.”
