KF set to carry out AEI conversions at second location

(Photo: KF Aerospace)[/caption] Canada-based KF Aerospace is establishing a 737-400SF conversion line at a second location, in Hamilton (YHM). The company’s YHM facility will soon provide touch labor for its first 737-400SF conversion according to an Aeronautical Engineers Inc. ( AEI ) STC. As part of a newly placed conversion order with AEI, the KF-owned aircraft (26280, ex-Juliet Romeo Aviation), currently parked at YHM, is expected to be inducted in December [FAT 005600]. KF, whose facility in Kelowna (YLW) was designated an AEI conversion site for 737 Classics in February 2017 , told Cargo Facts it expects to begin with one conversion line at YHM, with the potential for expansion dependent on demand. After securing Canadian certification for its 737-300SF and 737-400SF conversion programs at the end of March, AEI announced early April that KF would add a second line for its conversions, and that 737-800SF conversions at YLW could begin as early as the end of 2020. KF Aerospace said it did not currently have any plans to acquire and convert 737-800s of its own. The Canadian aviation company recently completed and took redelivery of its first owned 737-400SF (24751, ex-Flair Airlines) at YLW. KF told Cargo Facts that it had yet to finalize placement of the aircraft, registered to leasing affiliate Regency Aero Lease in June. Unit 24751 is the first 737-400 under a three-aircraft deal with AEI announced in April, and Cargo Facts believes the other two are also ex-Flair units (24769 and 24573). KF recently expanded its MRO facility at YHM with the opening of a 75,000-square-foot maintenance hangar in November 2019.
