Altavair to add new 777F pair to portfolio

Altavair has secured production slots from Boeing for two 777Fs as the tight widebody freighter market continues to drive demand for the current-generation twinjet. The lessor hopes to receive the freighters in 2025, although delivery may slip into 2026, it told Cargo Facts . (Courtesy/Maersk)[/caption] The order first appeared in Boeing’s backlog after the planemaker’s monthly update for June 2024 . Boeing had attributed the order to its financing arm, BCA Customer Finance, but now shows the customer as Altitude II Tradeco, an entity belonging to Altavair, the lessor confirmed to Cargo Facts . Turkish Airlines also ordered four 777Fs , and one or more unidentified customers ordered five in June 2024, the first month since August 2021 in which Boeing received orders for more than ten of the type. Boeing saw another month with orders for eleven 777Fs in September 2024, and ended the year with a total of thirty-five 777Fs ordered. The healthy activity around the production 777F reflects the lack of capacity — and options — in the short term in the widebody freighter segment. The lessor has five 777Fs in its portfolio, according to its website. This year, Boeing will deliver 777Fs to carriers that already fly the type, including Emirates , DHL and Atlas Air, as well as new operators, including One Air and Suparna Airlines . Altavair also told Cargo Facts in November 2023 that it had signed a deal with IAI for up to ten 777-300ERSF conversion slots . The lessor also has three A330-300P2Fs left to deliver to Amazon to complete its ten-aircraft lease deal with the e-tailer. Meanwhile, fellow lessor Titan Aircraft Investments recently purchased two 2015-vintage 777Fs with attached leases to Ethiopian Airlines, citing global growing demand for long-haul air cargo capacity.
