Breaking news from the CARGO FACTS 2010 Symposium in Miami
Our 16th annual aircraft symposium got underway last night at the Doral Golf Resort in Miami. A great setting, with a bigger-than-expected crowd enjoying the opening reception last night on the wide patio outside the conference venue. Over the next few days we will update you with information from the various panel discussions, but tonight we start with an announcement made during today’s luncheon presentation by Didier Lenormand, Head of Freighter Aircraft Marketing at Airbus.
Netherlands-based lessor AerCap Holdings, the launch customer for the A320 passenger-to-freighter conversion program offered by Airbus Freighter Conversions (AFC), placed three A320Fs on lease with European cargo operator West Atlantic. Under the agreement (which is subject to finalization of terms and conditions) West Atlantic will take delivery of an initial three A320 freighters between 2012 and mid-2013, with the option of a further four units by 2015. AerCap’s launch order with AFC (placed in 2008) is for up to 30 A320 Family conversions
West Atlantic is one of the world’s largest regional freighter operators, with a fleet of 38 ATP turboprop freighters, plus two CRJ200Fs and several Lockheed Electras.
