SF joins the 767 league

With the attention of the air freight and express world focused on Amazon’s alleged plan to launch its own air network with twenty or more 767 freighters, it is easy to forget that there are real airlines in the world, expanding their freighter fleets now, not in the future

SF Airlines is one of those, and today is a landmark day for the China-based express operator, as it takes redelivery of its first widebody freighter, a 767-300 converted to BCF freighter configuration by Boeing at ST Aero’s  Paya Lebar facility (QPG) in Singapore.

This is the first of five 767-300 P-to-F conversions SF ordered from Boeing earlier this year, and marks a significant change in the carrier’s fleet strategy — even more significant if rumors that SF is negotiating with Boeing for the purchase of twenty-five production 767-300Fs are true.

SF Airlines, the air arm of SF Express, currently operates (in addition to the just-redelivered 767-300BCF) thirteen 757-200Fs, four 737-400Fs, and eight 737-300Fs. Cargo Facts believes SF has at least seven 737-300 P-to-F conversions and close to ten 757-200 P-to-F conversions on order.
