Production freighters outnumber conversion redeliveries in August

Despite being a comparatively slow month for freighter aircraft transactions ( FATs ) with just 26 transactions logged in August, compared to 51 in July , it was a busy month for production freighter deliveries. Boeing delivered a total of five widebody freighters to express carriers with FedEx adding two 777Fs and two 767-300Fs, and UPS adding a 747-8F. During the same period, there were just four freighter-converted aircraft redelivered with half of the redeliveries being 767-300BDSFs going to Cargo Aircraft Management. Narrowbody conversion activity remains light due to feedstock limitations resulting in part from the grounding of the 737 MAX . The FAA is expected to issue an update on the MAX later this afternoon. FedEx took delivery of two 777Fs (40671 and 41736) from Boeing [FAT 005090 and 005101]. FedEx also took delivery of two 767-300Fs (63109 and 64057) [FATs 005089, 5114]. Air France KLM Martinair Cargo ACMI-leased a Cargolux 747-400F (34235) while a 777F (32966) received its D-check [FAT 005095]. Qantas ACMI-leased two 747-8Fs (37561 and 37566) from Atlas Air [FAT 004828 and 004829]. The two aircraft replace two 747-400Fs (30588 and 32840) [FAT 005106 and 005111]. Chinese cargo carrier Uni-Top Airlines acquired a 747-400BDSF (25207) from Suparna Airlines [FAT 005100]. Flexport ACMI-leased a 747-400F (36135) from Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA) [FAT 005103]. The aircraft is painted in Flexport colors and is operated by Atlas Air, replacing another NCA 747-400F (34283) also operated by Atlas. Air Atlanta Icelandic acquired a 747-400BDSF (27899) from EVA Air [FAT 005104]. The aircraft had been parked for storage in Jakarta (CGK). Lufthansa Cargo parked an MD-11F (48785) [FAT 005110]. The aircraft was ferried from Frankfurt (FRA) to Victorville (VCV) for storage. This was the first of two MD-11Fs Lufthansa Cargo plans to withdraw from service this year. The remaining ten will be retired by 2025. FedEx sent an MD-10F (48263) to scrap in Victorville (VCV) [FAT 005091]. LATAM Airlines removed a 767-300ER (34629) from its fleet and ferried it to Singapore (QPG) ahead of conversion to freighter configuration by Boeing [FAT 005096]. Seoul-based Air Incheon returned its sole 767-300BDSF (25202) to lessor ATSG West Leasing (a subsidiary of Air Transport Services Group) [FAT 005102]. CAM acquired three 767-300BCFs from All Nippon Airways [FATs 005097-5099]. The first one (25136) has left the fleet and been ferried to Wilmington (ILN). CAM took redelivery of a 767-300BDSF (26913, ex-Air New Zealand) from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) [FAT 005105]. The aircraft is the fifth that CAM will lease to Amazon this year, and will be operated by Air Transport International [FAT 005108 and 005109]. CAM also took redelivery of another 767-300BDSF (28041, ex-Air Italy) [FAT 005112]. This frame is the first of four 767Fs CAM will be dry-leasing to UPS this year [FAT 005113]. China Postal Airlines took redelivery of its first 737-800BCF (30786, ex-China Southern Airlines), on lease from BBAM [FATs 005087-5088]. Qantas placed an order for up to three A321P2Fs , with the first one (835, ex-Onur Air) to be converted by EFW and leased from Vallair [FAT 005092-005094]. Philippines-based PSI Air 2007 acquired a 737-300QC (23809, ex-Thai Express Air) [FAT 005107]. Hawaiian Airlines took redelivery of an ATR 72-200F (432, ex-First Air) following conversion to freighter configuration by IPR Conversions at the Empire MRO facility in Coeur d’Alene (COE) [FAT 005060]. The aircraft was subsequently handed over to Empire Airlines for operation on a CMI basis for Hawaiian’s regional subsidiary, ‘Ohana.
