ATSG signs three more 767F leases, bests yearly delivery record

(Photo: NAC)[/caption] Air Transport Services Group’s ( ATSG ) dry-leasing arm, Cargo Aircraft Management ( CAM ), has signed three more deals to lease converted 767 freighters and is on course to deliver a record number of aircraft in a single year. The new agreements involve one 767-300BDSF for Alaska-based Northern Air Cargo [FAT 005666] and two 767-200BDSFs — one each for Kenya-based Astral Aviation [FAT 005664] and Mexico-based MasAir [FAT 005665]. The 767-300BDSF is expected to be delivered to Northern Air Cargo in November. Cargo Facts believes the aircraft could be unit 29432 (ex-American Airlines), which arrived in Tel Aviv (TLV) to be converted by Israel Aerospace Industries ( IAI ) in July. Northern Air Cargo and affiliate Aloha Air Cargo already have three ex-American 767-300BDSFs (25199, 25201 and 25451) leased from CAM. Astral, which had previously expected to take delivery of its first 767-200F in September, recently told Cargo Facts it anticipates a late-October delivery. The carrier had told Cargo Facts in May that it planned to take one 767-200F by the end of the year . Cargo Facts believes the aircraft is unit 22217, the 767-200BDSF returned by Sweden-based West Atlantic in March . MasAir, which took its first CAM 767-300BDSF (24853, ex-ABX Air) in July , expects to receive the 767-200BDSF later this month. Cargo Facts believes this could be unit 22788, returned off lease by West Atlantic in June 2019 . These three will add to the following CAM agreements we previously reported: A 767-300BDSF to be delivered to Canada-based Cargojet in October, with an option to purchase at the end of the seven-year lease term [FAT 005663]. This will take the carrier’s fleet to twenty-five freighters at the end of 2020. Cargo Facts believes the aircraft could be unit 29431 (ex-American Airlines), which arrived at TLV at the end of March; unit 29227 (ex-LATAM), at TLV since April; or unit 29429 (ex-American Airlines), which went to TLV in late May. UPS began flying in October a fifth 767-300BDSF (29228, ex-LATAM) leased from CAM. The initial agreement with CAM, signed in 2019 , had been for four aircraft but at some point this was increased to five. Florida-based Amerijet took delivery of its seventh CAM 767-300BDSF (26996, ex-American Airlines) in September 2020. The carrier also leases a 767-200BDSF from CAM. Amazon has taken delivery of three 767-300BDSFs (25202, 24985 and 25448) and two 767-300BCFs (24400 and 24632) from CAM in 2020. Four are the last of thirty to be delivered by the end of 2020 under previous agreements, while one is part of a new agreement for twelve more 767-300Fs , announced in June. Malaysia-based Raya Airways received a second 767-200BDSF (22215, ex-Amerijet) from CAM in June. According to Mike Berger, chief commercial officer of ATSG, the company will finish 2020 with deliveries of thirteen newly converted 767-300Fs and “three other expected redeployments of freighter aircraft.” Scheduled deliveries in 2021 already exceed this year’s total, he said. At the end of the second quarter, CAM was expecting to lease at least twenty newly converted 767-300Fs through 2021 , including fifteen for Amazon, two for UPS, and three for which lease arrangements were being finalized with existing customers at the time. The company had also mentioned it expected to place at least twelve 767-300Fs in 2020 and two 767-200Fs in the second half of the year.
