Freighter aircraft transactions through June

Every week in Cargo Facts Update, we include a list of recent freighter aircraft transactions, and then a comprehensive summary in the monthly issue of Cargo Facts. Each reference to a freighter aircraft transaction (FAT) in our publications contains a unique FAT code linked to the FAT database on the CargoFacts.com website. This database is available to subscribers as an interactive tool on our website, and you can go to it from the “FAT Data” tab at the top of the home page, or directly at https://cargofacts.com/fat/ Atlas Air announced it would shortly begin flying a third 747-400F on behalf of Asiana Cargo, the cargo arm of South Korean carrier Asiana Airlines [FAT 004909]. The company also confirmed its Southern Air affiliate had secured a contract with DHL Express to operate the first two of at least fourteen, and up to twenty-one, 777Fs the express integrator has on order with Boeing [FATs 004505–4525]. Taiwan-based EVA Air retired a 747-400BDSF (27899), the final 747 in the carrier’s fleet [FAT 004910]. EVA took delivery of a fifth 777F (62828) from Boeing in May and has no additional freighters on order. A Nippon Cargo Airlines 747-400F (36135) will be returned to commercial service following a maintenance check in Taiwan, to be operated on a CMI basis by Atlas Air [FAT 004930]. KLM leases Atlas Air 747F. One of KLM Cargo’s 747-400ERFs (33694) was grounded at Schiphol (AMS) after having been involved in a ground incident at Dar-es-Salaam (DAR). Coincidentally, the carrier said that it had already arranged a short-term ACMI lease of an Atlas Air 747-400F before the incident to replace another of its 747-400ERFs (33696) during scheduled heavy maintenance. The carrier brought forward the lease slightly to help in the recovery of the ground incident [FAT 005032]. Emirates withdrew from service another 777F (35607), which was on lease from Dubai-based DAE Capital [FAT 004911]. Shortly thereafter, US-based Kalitta Air acquired the 777F on lease from DAE Aviation [FAT 004938]. An Etihad-operated 777F (39682) began flying between Dubai (DWC) and Hong Kong (HKG), joining a 777F that Etihad already operates for Emirates (60509) [FAT 004913]. A UK offshoot of the Russia-based Volga-Dnepr Group has firmed up an order for nine 777Fs [FATs 004921-4929]. Although the deal was finalized in December 2018, the order from Volga-Dnepr UK Ltd. is only now surfacing in a recent update to Boeing’s order book. ANA Cargo took delivery of a 777F (65757) from Boeing [FAT 004920]. Boeing delivered a 777F (65477) to Ethiopian Airlines [FAT 005028]. The aircraft was flown from the Everett factory (PAE) to the carrier’s hub in Addis Ababa (ADD). Boeing delivered a 777F (66080) to DHL Express [FAT 005030]. This aircraft is painted in DHL colors and will be the second to be operated by Southern Air on a CMI basis, having been ferried to Cincinnati (CVG). EFW inducts A330. On 25 June, 777 arrived at EFW’s Dresden facility where it was inducted for conversion to freighter configuration. Not a “777” airframe, but rather an A330-300 with MSN 777 (ex-China Eastern Airlines) [FAT 005033]. Sichuan Airlines took delivery of its second of three A330-200Fs (1350) that went off lease with Qatar Airways earlier this year [FAT 001350]. Although the carrier took delivery of the first A330F earlier this month, it does not expect to launch operations with the aircraft until September. Boeing delivered a 767-300F (65788) to UPS [FAT 005025]. The aircraft was ferried from Paine Field (PAE) to San Antonio (SAT), possibly for the installation of winglets. Sweden-based West Atlantic flew one of its four 767-200BDSFs (22788, ex-ABX) from Leipzig (LEJ) via Bangor (BGR) to Columbus (LCK). The airline confirmed to Cargo Facts that the aircraft came off lease and was being redelivered to lessor Cargo Aircraft Management (CAM) [FAT 005027]. Boeing delivered a 767-300F (63108) to FedEx [FAT 005031]. The aircraft was ferried from PAE to the integrator’s hub in Indianapolis (IND). Guam-based all-cargo carrier Asia Pacific Airlines took redelivery of a third freighter-converted 757-200PCF (25140, ex-OpenSkies) following conversion by Precision Aircraft Solutions [FAT 004931]. US-based Jetran ordered three 757-200PCF conversions from Precision Aircraft Solutions. The three aircraft were recently acquired from American Airlines (24613, 24614, and 25296) [FATs 005011-5016]. Following conversion at Flightstar Aircraft Services in Jacksonville (VQQ) the aircraft will be redelivered to operator Spain-based Swiftair [FATS 005017-5020]. San Francisco-based lessor BBAM signed a letter of intent with EFW for one A321 passenger-to-freighter conversion [FAT 005020]. EFW inducts A321 for conversion. EFW, the 60/40 joint venture between ST Aerospace Engineering and Airbus, has already inducted a conformity aircraft for conversion (835, ex-Onur Air) at ST Aerospace’s Seletar (XSP), which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019 [FAT 005026]. GECAS firmed up ten existing options for 737-800BCF conversions and added options for fifteen more with Boeing at the Paris Air Show [FATs 004945-4969], while Amazon confirmed plans to lease fifteen additional 737-800BCFs from GECAS by 2021 [FATs 004971-4985]. Ireland-based ASL Aviation Holdings placed a firm order for ten 737-800BCFs with purchase rights for an additional ten, in a memorandum of understanding signed with Boeing at the Paris Air Show [FATs 004986-5005]. Boeing redelivered a 737-800BCF (32663, ex-Jet Airways) to GECAS [FATs 004936-4937]. Canada-based Avmax took redelivery of its first of two combi-to full-freighter converted 737-400Fs (25099, ex-Alaska Airlines) it has on order with PEMCO World Air Services. Avmax tells Cargo Facts that a second 737-400 combi (25100) has also been converted to full-freighter configuration and that it is considering full-freighter conversion as an option for the remaining three 737-400 combis in its portfolio [FAT 004932]. FedEx retired an A310-300F (492, ex-Air Plus Comet) and sent it to Victorville (VCV) to be scrapped [FAT 005029].
