Widebody freighter aircraft transactions surge in October 2019

Of the 7 3 transactions Cargo Facts recorded in October 2019, 4 6 involved widebody freighters. A lthough 30 of those transactions included orders and options related to lessor GECAS’ launch order for IAI’s 777-300ERSF , widebody freighter deliveries and placements also accelerated during the period, perhaps unsurprisingly ahead of peak season. A total of four 777Fs were delivered during the period – two to Qatar Airways, and one each to Turkish Cargo and AeroLogic . During the previous month, three 777Fs were delivered – a figure that is already above normal for an average month. On par with 777F placements were deliveries of 767-300F production freighters, and redeliveries of freighter-converted 767-300s. FedEx and UPS each added a new 767-300F following delivery from Boeing. Cargo Aircraft Management (CAM) and DHL also took redelivery of converted units following conversion by IAI and Boeing. This figure is up from transactions recorded in September when Boeing delivered a 767 F each to FedEx and UPS, and redelivered a 767-300BCF to Atlas Air. The aircraft, UPS’ fourteenth 747-8F, was ferried to the Louisville (SDF) hub. Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific withdrew its single remaining 747-400BCF (25152) and ferried the freighter to the aircraft boneyard at Pinal Airpark (MZJ) in Marana, A riz. , via Anchorage (ANC) and Los Angeles (LAX) [FAT 005156]. The aircraft had not flown since operating a round trip between Hong Kong (HKG) and Chennai (MAA) on Aug. 29. ASL Airlines Belgium will lease a 747-400F (30762) from China Airlines [FAT 005217]. On Aug. 5, 2019, the aircraft was removed from long-term storage at Victorville (VCV), where it had been parked since February 2012. GECAS placed the launch order for up to thirty of the newly announced 777-300ERSF , including 15 firm orders and 15 options, to be converted by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). GECAS will also be providing the conformity aircraft [FATS 005169-5198]. Qatar Airways took delivery of two 777Fs (66336 and 66337) from Boeing [FATs 005153-5154]. Following the delivery, the Doha-based carrier’s 777F fleet grows to nineteen units. Turkish Cargo took delivery of a 777F (66578) from Boeing [FAT 005155]. AeroLogic took delivery of a 777F (66632) from Boeing, on lease from Boeing Capital [FATs 005212-5214]. Lufthansa Cargo ferried an MD-11F (48805) to Victorville (VCV) for storage [FAT 005221]. Cargo Aircraft Management (CAM) took redelivery of a 767-300BDSF (28039, ex-Air Italy) from IAI [FAT 005158]. The aircraft is being dry-leased to UPS [FAT 005159]. FedEx took delivery of a 767-300F (63112) from Boeing [FAT 005215]. UPS took delivery of a 767-300F (65907) from Boeing [FAT 005219]. The aircraft was ferried to San Antonio (SAT) for technical modifications ahead of entry into service. DHL took redelivery of a 767-300BCF (28042) [FAT 005220]. The aircraft was converted by Boeing in Singapore (QPG) and was ferried to Panama City (PTY) via Seoul (ICN) and Anchorage (ANC). SF Express acquired a 757-200 (29943, ex-TUI) [FAT 005216]. Atran took redelivery of a 737-800BCF (33419, ex-Primera Air), on lease from GECAS [FAT 005160-005161]. Garuda Indonesia will dry-lease two 737-800BCFs from GECAS [FATs 005199-5200]. GECAS ferried a 737-800 (33677, ex-Neos) to Jinan (TNA) for conversion by Boeing at the Taikoo (Shandong) Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd. (STAECO) facility [FAT 005201]. Boeing announced an order for ten 737-800BCF conversions from an unidentified customer during Cargo Facts Symposium [FATs 005202-5211]. This brings the total number of orders and commitments for the 737-800BCF to 130 units, 30 of which were logged in 2019. Abu Dhabi-based startup Emirates International Air Cargo (EIAC) took redelivery of its first freighter-converted 737-400F (28151, ex-Qantas) [FAT 005168]. The aircraft was converted by PEMCO at the COOPESA facility in San Jose (SJO) in 2014. Mexico-based Aeronaves TSM took redelivery of an MD-83SF (53122) from Aeronautical Engineers, Inc. [FAT 005157]. Scotland-based Loganair took redelivery of its first ATR 72-500F freighter (570, ex-Canary Fly) , on lease from Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) [FAT 005222-5224]. Zimex Aviation took redelivery of its third ATR 42F (93) , after it was converted in Sonderborg (SGD) and painted at East Midlands Airport (EMA) [FATs 005166-00567]. The Swiss carrier took its first ATR 42F (378) in July 2019 [FATs 005162-005163], while the second (317) was converted at the Rheinland Air Service facility in Monchengladbach (MGL) and was redelivered in September [FATs 005164-005165].
