Amazon reassigns second 767F to ATSG

Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) affiliate carrier Air Transport International (ATI) has begun operating for Amazon another 767-300BDSF (28495, ex-S7 Airlines) that was previously flown for the e-tailer by Atlas Air [FATs 005250-005251]. This is the second aircraft that Amazon has transferred from Atlas to ATSG.

On Sept. 25, unit 28495 flew from Jacksonville (VQQ) to Chicago Rockford (RFD), where Amazon officially opened a new facility this October. The 767 stayed there until Dec. 3, at which point it was ferried to Wilmington (ILN). It then entered service with ATI several hours later, flying to Ontario (ONT).

Unit 28495 was converted by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and redelivered to Titan Aviation, the leasing arm of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, in June 2018, then leased to Amazon, which placed it with Atlas Air to be operated on a CMI basis.

The first 767-300BDSF that Amazon reassigned to ATI was unit 30109 (ex-Transaero), which was brought to ILN in early September for conformity and commenced service in late October.

The number of 767-300Fs that Titan is leasing to Amazon and are CMI-operated by Atlas Air was reduced to nineteen after the crash involving unit 25865 this February, and is now at seventeen. Atlas’ original agreement with Amazon in 2016 was for the lease and operation of twenty 767-300Fs.

In the meantime, ATI recently started flying on behalf of Amazon a 767-300BDSF (26913, ex-Air New Zealand) that is being dry-leased by Cargo Aircraft Management (CAM), ATSG’s leasing division. CAM also took redelivery of another newly converted 767‑300BDSF (24983, ex-Delta) which will eventually be operated for Amazon by ATI.

As for Atlas, its affiliate carrier Southern Air is expecting to begin operating a recently converted 737-800BCF (32614, ex-Flybondi) on a CMI basis for Amazon by year-end. This aircraft was very recently redelivered to GECAS, from which Amazon is dry-leasing it, and arrived in Cincinnati (CVG) on Dec. 5 from Shanghai (PVG), via Sapporo (CTS) and Anchorage (ANC) [FATs 005247-005249].
